Khaberni - The Cabinet discussed in its session held today, Sunday, chaired by Prime Minister Dr. Jafar Hassan, the impact of the weather conditions during which the kingdom experienced an unprecedented amount of rainfall over six days, equivalent to the annual rainfall rates for a full year, especially in southern areas.
The Prime Minister affirmed that the rainfall rates are promising and will have positive effects on the agricultural sector and water reserves, noting that despite some damages to infrastructure in some areas, thankfully - no citizen was harmed, at a time when we are witnessing floods in countries like America, Europe, and the Gulf, which have better infrastructure than ours.
The Prime Minister directed immediate and swift measures to repair the damaged infrastructure and to complete the necessary studies within a month to reassess and rehabilitate the essential infrastructure, as per the available capabilities and priorities, pointing out that the infrastructure is primarily designed according to the average rainfall, not for exceptional circumstances.
He emphasized the urgency of immediately taking necessary measures to protect all archaeological and tourist sites and their surroundings in the kingdom from any floods, and to start immediately with repairing the damaged part of the wall adjacent to the Karak Castle.
The Prime Minister also stressed the necessity of implementing stringent supervisory measures on the homes located in valleys and flood-prone areas to protect citizens and ensure their safety, especially during the rainy seasons like the recent one we experienced.
The Prime Minister also directed the Ministry of Finance to allocate ten million dinars from the emergency expenditure item to improve the infrastructure in the provinces, especially those affected by the weather conditions experienced by the kingdom.
He also instructed the Ministers of Agriculture, Social Development, Awqaf and Islamic Affairs to compensate the less fortunate affected through activating social protection mechanisms, with additional funding, following the usual procedures.
