Khaberni - The Israeli government's legal adviser, Gali Baharav Miara, yesterday, Thursday, asked the Supreme Court to compel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to dismiss the Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, for "his abuse of office," according to Israeli media.
Anadolu Agency quoted the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper as saying that the legal adviser's request to dismiss Ben-Gvir was due to "his illegal exploitation of his position to influence police activities, especially in the most sensitive cases related to law enforcement and investigations."
The newspaper added that Miara asked the Supreme Court to issue an order requiring Netanyahu to explain why he has not dismissed the National Security Minister, affirming that his intervention in the police’s work is illegal and represents what she called a "direct undermining of fundamental democratic values."
The adviser also pointed out that these practices have become a systematic behavior that may lead to irreparable damages, in the absence of any steps to stop this path.
According to the Israeli newspaper, the adviser emphasized that the continuation of the current situation leads to weakening the independence and non-partisan nature of the police.
The Israeli Broadcasting Authority reported that the legal adviser has indeed approached the Supreme Court with a request to compel Netanyahu to provide a legal justification for not dismissing Ben-Gvir over the same allegations.
In contrast, Ben-Gvir attacked the legal adviser through his account on the X platform, saying: "Criminal, I do not regard you."
Miara often expressed views opposing the right-wing directions of Netanyahu's government, while ministers accuse her of exercising her authority based on "damaging leftist views."
Ben-Gvir leads the extreme right-wing party "Jewish Power," and has repeatedly boasted about mistreating Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons, and incited the resumption of annihilation war in the Gaza Strip.
