Halting Funding for Specific Parties Following Audit Bureau Remarks

Khaberni -  The Independent Election Commission elucidated on the contents of the Audit Bureau's report for the year 2024 regarding political parties, noting that it followed what was circulated in the media concerning the financial situations of some political parties.

The Commission confirmed that the financial audit conducted by the Audit Bureau on the political parties was based on an official request from the Independent Election Commission, as the political parties’ law in Article (29) grants the right to the Board of Commissioners or its delegate, and the Audit Bureau was delegated for this purpose.

The Commission stated that the remarks in the Audit Bureau's report were addressed according to the provisions of the political parties law and the related regulations and instructions, where necessary legal actions were taken depending on the nature of each case.

It was pointed out that funding was halted for political parties that had received financial support from the budget and were found to have issues, until their situations are rectified.

The Commission indicated that the Board of Commissioners has filed lawsuits to dissolve two parties due to their failure to submit the annual financial budget of the party, and the expiry of the consequent legal procedures and timelines, which are still under judicial consideration.

The Independent Election Commission also confirmed that the majority of the parties were compliant with the legislative provisions governing their activities, and a few non-compliant parties later rectified their situations before the release of the Audit Bureau’s report.
