Khaberni - The Jordanian Iftaa Department issued a statement, following the circulation of posts by one of the Jordanian "artists" on social media, mocking the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, and Islam.
The department warned in its statement that the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, and his prophetic Sunnah should not be used in social media as subjects for ridicule, mockery, and increasing viewership.
The following is the text of the statement as reported by Khaberni:
Statement issued by the Iftaa Department
(The status of our Prophet ﷺ is one of reverence and respect, and he was the first to interpret the Holy Quran and clarify its meanings)
The General Iftaa Department affirms that describing our Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, as unlettered is a description of perfection and honor, and should not be used to diminish his esteemed status, as Allah Almighty says (Say, O people, I am the messenger of Allah to you all, the one to whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth, there is no deity except him, he gives life and causes death, so believe in Allah and his messenger, the unlettered prophet who believes in Allah and his words and follow him that you may be guided).
His inability to read and write before his noble mission is a demonstration of his miracle, as Allah Almighty revealed the Holy Quran to him and taught him sciences and principles that clarify what was revealed to him from the Quran, surpassing philosophers, legislators, historians, and scholars of universal and natural sciences. His illiteracy, along with these sciences on which the affairs of the world and hereafter depend, is the clear proof that what he says is indeed a revelation from Allah to him.
The prophetic Sunnah, containing his statements and actions, peace be upon him, is the second source of legislation, and it provides an explanation and interpretation of Allah's words, whether it comes to interpreting the Holy Quran and clarifying its meanings and rulings or it includes judgments not mentioned in the Quran, as Allah Almighty said (What the Messenger gives you, take; what he forbids you, refrain from), and as Allah Almighty said: (And We have sent down to you the Reminder that you may make clear to the people what was sent down to them that they might give thought), thus the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, was the first to interpret the Holy Quran, and it is not permissible to separate what was brought by the Prophet, peace be upon him independently, from what came as an interpretation of the words of Allah Almighty, for both are revelation from Allah Almighty, as He said, (Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. It is not but a revelation revealed), and the Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "Indeed, I was given the Quran and something like it along with it."
In this context, we clarify that it is not permissible to undertake the interpretation of the Holy Quran and the pure Sunnah and clarify the legal rulings without possessing the principal sciences that enable a correct understanding of the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Prophet, peace be upon him, such as the fundamentals of jurisprudence and language sciences among others, as said by Allah Almighty: (So ask the people of the reminder if you do not know), and we warn that the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, and his prophetic Sunnah should not be used in social media as subjects for ridicule, mockery, and increasing viewership.
