Khaberni - The Ministry of Local Administration stated that the central emergency room in the ministry works with all complaints and comments received around the clock in coordination with the emergency rooms in the municipalities and joint service councils in all provinces, and in cooperation with the administrative governors, civil defense, the Ministry of Public Works, and all relevant entities.
It noted that the kingdom is affected today, Monday, by a new, short-duration, and highly effective low-pressure system, accompanied by heavy rain and hail showers and strong to high winds in extensive areas, starting its effects from the morning hours, with its peak from noon until the evening, and beginning to recede during the late hours of Monday/Tuesday night.
The ministry explained that since yesterday, about 95 complaints and observations have been dealt with by the central emergency room, most of which focused on the rising water levels in main and side streets, in addition to rock and mudslides caused by the flowing water volumes, leading to some roads being closed, where the municipal staff and joint service councils worked on opening them and addressing all observations.
The Ministry of Local Administration urged citizens to exercise caution and be wary of heavy rainfalls, flash floods, rising water levels on roads, to stay away from valleys and watercourses, and to avoid taking risks or hazardous actions to preserve lives and properties.
It also warned of the intensity of the winds, calling for
securing or removing metal sheets, canopies, and anything that may be blown away, and to fully comply with instructions and guidelines issued by the competent authorities during the impact of the low-pressure system, as it is accompanied by severe winds that may exceed gusts of 90 km/h, with the possibility of dust storms on the eastern desert highways.
Yesterday, the ministry published the early warning map, and it is expected that the risk level (high risk) will increase in the municipalities of the Irbid, Jerash, and Ajloun governorates due to very heavy rain and a high possibility of floods and valley runoff.
In the afternoon hours, the rain will extend to central regions within a medium risk level in the municipalities of the capital, Balqa, Madaba, Karak, and Tafilah, with a possibility of rising water levels in some locations.
According to the map during the night hours, heavy rains will concentrate on Karak and Tafilah, to gradually decline and decrease by dawn on Tuesday.
The Ministry of Local Administration confirmed that it circulated updated weather maps to the municipalities and joint service councils, instructed to open emergency rooms, monitor critical sites in the field, and enhance coordination with concerned entities.
