The Iraqi Embassy in Jordan announced early this Thursday that the evacuation operation of a number of Iraqi citizens and their families from the Gaza Strip has been completed, in coordination with the relevant Jordanian authorities. The embassy clarified in an official statement that the operation was carried out last Tuesday, expressing its gratitude to the Jordanian authorities for the facilitations provided to ensure the success of this humanitarian mission, which reflects the depth of the historical relations and the continued coordination between the two countries under various circumstances, especially in critical times.
The operation took place the day before last Tuesday in cooperation with the relevant Jordanian authorities, according to a statement from the Iraqi Embassy in Jordan, which expressed its gratitude to the Jordanian entities for their cooperation and the facilities that helped in the success of this humanitarian operation, confirming the depth of the historical relations between Iraq and Jordan, and the continuous coordination between the two countries under different circumstances.
The statement pointed out that the Iraqi Ambassador in Amman, Omar Al-Barzanji, was there to receive the citizens upon their arrival in Jordanian territory to ensure their safety, affirming the embassy's continuous support for the community. The statement also mentioned that this step comes at a sensitive time, as the Gaza Strip suffers from significant humanitarian difficulties and tensions, making the secure exit of Iraqi citizens and their family members a pressing necessity.
The embassy did not disclose the exact numbers of Iraqis who were evacuated or those remaining inside the sector. However, Abbas Al-Jabouri, a member of the Foreign Relations Committee in the Iraqi Parliament, had previously revealed in his statements that the number of Iraqis stranded in Gaza was about 44 people, who are legally residing there, most of whom are married to Palestinian women or vice versa. Al-Jabouri confirmed at the time that Baghdad was working to transfer them through Egypt or Jordan as part of the direct coordination with both countries.
