Khaberni - Democratic Representative Haley Stevens introduced on Wednesday a resolution for the impeachment of the American Secretary of Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
This resolution comes amidst a rising wave of impeachment calls among Democrats in the House of Representatives, targeting also the Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, and President Donald Trump himself.
Previously, Democratic Representative Shri Thanedar had introduced resolutions for the impeachment of Trump and Hegseth, in a move seen by some observers as aiming to neutralize the electoral challenge from the left.
Stevens is running a competitive race in the primary elections for the Senate in Michigan, where she is considered the most moderate among the three candidates. This move reflects the Democratic voters' pressure on their representatives to adopt a more stringent stance against the Trump administration.
The 13-page resolution targets the Secretary of Health with one main charge of "misuse of authority and undermining public health". The document covers a wide range of issues, including cutting funds for vaccine research, alleged links between the use of Tylenol and autism, and dismissing all members of several advisory committees in the department.
The Democratic representative said in a statement, "Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has turned his back on science, public health, and the American people – spreading conspiracy theories and lies, increasing costs, and endangering lives."
In response, the department's spokesperson Andrew Nixon said, "Secretary Kennedy is focused on improving the health of Americans and reducing costs, not on partisan theatrics designed to boost his standing in a third-rate and failing Senate race."
The chances of success for this endeavor are currently slim, considering that the Republican party controls the majority of seats in both the House and the Senate, making it difficult to pass any impeachment resolution against a member of the Republican administration.
