More than 600 commercial ships stuck in the Strait of Hormuz

Khaberni -   "The Times" newspaper, based on navigational data, stated that more than 600 large commercial ships are still stuck in the Strait of Hormuz, amid a state of congestion and disruption in navigation motion.

The newspaper added that Iran directs ships that have obtained permission to cross to pass through the Iranian waters surrounding the island of Larak, as part of organizing crossing routes within the region.

The data indicated that this maritime congestion resulted from a decline in the fluidity of the crossing and increased tension levels in the area, which directly reflected on shipping movements and international supply chains, amidst a state of anticipation among maritime transport companies for the possibility of developments in the coming period.

The newspaper mentioned that some shipping companies have already started to redirect their ship routes or reduce the frequency of sailing through the strait, in anticipation of further operational complications, which could lead to increased journey times and higher global maritime transport costs.

Navigation analysts also warned that the continued situation could impact energy markets and supply chains, given the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz as one of the most critical passages for transporting oil and goods between the Gulf and the rest of the global markets.
