Khaberni - The Ministry of Agriculture has decided to transform the Ain Jamla nursery into producing ornamental plants and seedlings instead of forestry trees, as part of the ministry's 2026 strategy, according to the forestry director at the Ministry of Agriculture, Khaled Al-Manaseer.
Al-Manaseer told Al-Mamlaka TV that the decision to convert Ain Jamla nursery to produce ornamental plants was part of the ministry's plan to develop nurseries and increase their productive capacity, explaining that the trees previously produced by Jamla nursery were compensated for by increasing the production of Faisal, Yajouz, Deir Alla, and Wadi Shueib nurseries.
Al-Manaseer added that the ministry's nurseries rely on artesian wells which have recently seen a significant decrease in water quantities, prompting the ministry to implement the "Nursery Conveyor" project aiming to expand their area and increase their productive capacity of forestry plants by relocating some of the production to other expanded nurseries.
Al-Manaseer clarified that the decision was made to preserve productivity and ensure sustainability and the production of high-quality seedlings, noting that the ministry had previously decided to transfer the production of Ain Jamla nursery to Faisal nursery and increase its production there.
According to Al-Manaseer, the decision to transfer the production capacity of Ain Jamla nursery was due to water level decrease, where it was producing about 250,000 seedlings annually, and this production was compensated by increasing the production capacity of other nurseries; Yajouz nursery's production increased from 800,000 to one million seedlings annually, in addition to increasing the production of Faisal nursery and other nurseries.
Al-Manaseer pointed out that increasing the productivity of nurseries was to meet the needs of the Ministry of Agriculture's afforestation projects aiming to plant 10 million forestry trees, explaining that the ministry is working in cooperation with Jerash Directorate of Agriculture to allocate Jamla nursery to produce ornamental and alley seedlings in specified quantities and aesthetic nature, to be distributed to the directorates of agriculture and municipalities for use in parks and public facilities.
Al-Manaseer mentioned that funds from the governorate council's budget and the ministry, along with support from some organizations, are currently being allocated to start producing ornamental seedlings at the beginning of the upcoming season.
Al-Manaseer added that after the development of Jamla nursery is completed, the ministry will generalize the experience in the Central Region to produce quality ornamental seedlings as part of the Ministry of Agriculture's strategy.
Ain Jamla Nursery is the second oldest agricultural nursery affiliated with the Ministry of Agriculture, established in 1953 according to the forestry director Khaled Al-Manaseer.
