Khaberni - Authorities in Tennessee, USA arrested a woman after her two children, aged two and four, were hospitalized for eating candy that contained narcotics.
WBBJ-TV reported that the mother, Candice Hickson (43 years old), was detained and taken to Gibson County Jail after police received a report on the 28th of the month stating that the children had consumed a large amount of THCA candy stored inside a bathroom of their home, according to "People" magazine.
According to a statement from the Gibson County Sheriff's Office, police arrived at the home to find the children unresponsive, and Hickson explained to the police that her children had accessed the pack of narcotic candy when she entered the bathroom.
The children were taken to the hospital, where they received treatment and were discharged within 48 hours, according to a statement from the 28th Judicial District Attorney of Tennessee, Frederick H. Agee, reported by ABC News.
Gibson County's electronic records show that the mother faces charges of child abuse, neglect, and endangering them, with her preliminary court session scheduled for December 16.
Authorities decided to place the children under the care of Tennessee Child Services after tests showed the mother had used drugs.
The district attorney, Agee, said his office would follow up on the case according to the law, emphasizing the importance of Mrs. Hickson receiving the necessary treatment for her addiction, which would allow her to later return to caregiving for her children in a safe environment.
