Khaberni - The President of the Board of Commissioners of the Petra Regional Development and Tourism Authority, Dr. Fares Al-Breizat, welcomed a delegation from the Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission and the Ministry of Transport, to discuss mechanisms for updating the existing airstrip in the Petra region and improving its technical and operational readiness to serve the aerial tourist transportation system.
During the meeting, Al-Breizat emphasized that updating the airstrip is a strategic step to enhance the infrastructure of tourist transportation and an important means to directly link Petra with Amman and the Golden Triangle (Petra, Wadi Rum, Aqaba), contributing to enhancing Jordan's competitiveness as a global tourist destination.
During the meeting, technical and regulatory aspects necessary for the development of the airstrip were reviewed, along with improving its operational efficiency, updating safety and navigation systems, and ground services, in addition to discussing the regulatory frameworks that ensure its operation according to the highest standards adopted in the civil aviation sector.
Both sides also discussed ways to enhance integration between the relevant entities to facilitate operating procedures and link the airstrip to the terrestrial and tourist transportation system in the region, ensuring a comprehensive and safe transportation experience for visitors.
On their part, representatives of the Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission and the Ministry of Transport confirmed their commitment to supporting the Petra airstrip upgrading project, considering it a vital project that serves national tourism, and contributes to improving operational efficiency and the level of services provided to tourists.
At the end of the meeting, Al-Breizat stressed that the Petra Region Authority is progressing in implementing quality projects in the tourist transport sector, notably the airstrip updating project, in cooperation with partners in the public and private sectors, affirming that the next phase will witness practical steps to translate the meeting's outcomes into executable programs on the ground.
