Khaberni - The First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Khamis Atiyah, said that the Jordanian-European relations represent a firm model for an advanced strategic partnership, operating under the direct guidance of His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein, who is keen on maintaining continuous communication with the institutions of the European Union.
In a speech delivered before the Mashreq delegation in the European Parliament, he said, "From this esteemed platform, allow me to begin my speech by quoting from His Majesty the King's speech in the European Parliament where he said: 'It is likely that this year will be the year of pivotal decisions for our entire world, with Europe playing a vital role in choosing the right path, and you can rely on Jordan as a strong partner for you'."
He added that His Majesty referred to two main areas of joint work: supporting development, and coordinated action to ensure global security, stressing that shared security will not be achieved without a permanent resolution to the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict of eight decades.
He mentioned that relations have entered an advanced stage with the signing of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement 2025-2027 during His Majesty's visit to Brussels this year, which included financial support comprising grants, projects, and investment support.
Atiyah continued that despite the challenges, and under the leadership of His Majesty the King, Jordan continues its path of political, economic, and administrative modernization, and we have entered a stage of comprehensive reforms aimed at enhancing public participation, empowering parties, improving the efficiency of the administrative apparatus, and supporting the investment environment.
He referred to the siege, displacement, starvation, and destruction of infrastructure in Gaza as a humanitarian catastrophe that necessitates a clear international stance, appreciating the European Parliament's support for UNRWA.
He emphasized that Jordan is playing its role through airlifts, air drops, and field hospitals, and stressed that any temporary arrangements in Gaza cannot be a substitute for a political solution based on the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital, rejecting policies of displacement and unilateral measures, and affirming the Hashemite custodianship over the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
Assistant Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hala Al-Jarrah said that this visit emphasizes the depth of relations between Jordan and the European Union, which are based on solid foundations of mutual respect, true partnership, and a shared vision for a safer and more prosperous future.
She confirmed that the Jordanian-European cooperation, over the past decades, has proven to be a model for constructive partnership that unites a state that pursues moderation and works towards regional stability, and a union that acts as an active international force in supporting development and promoting peace. This cooperation has been reflected in many areas including economic development, energy, water, and education.
In turn, the Chairman of the Tourism and Antiquities Committee, Salem Al-Omari, said that the House of Representatives of Jordan affirms the constants in the context of enhancing security, stability, and peace in the Middle East which were expressed by His Majesty King Abdullah.
He added that Jordan is moving forward with comprehensive reform programs aimed at building a modern and advanced Jordanian state that matches all changes with steadfastness and determination of its loyal sons.
Deputy Amal Al-Shaqrain, in her intervention, affirmed Jordan's stance towards current events in Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria where efforts led by His Majesty the King are aimed at stopping the war, protecting civilians, and ensuring the delivery of aid to Gaza.
Deputy Ayatollah Freihat emphasized that the Israeli occupation government aims to destabilize the region by continuing to violate international law and disrespect for human rights, and that what is happening in Palestine is a real and final test for international humanitarian law.
Deputy Adnan Mashwuqah said that the Palestinian issue is a humanitarian issue that must be resolved by ensuring the Palestinian people's right to their historical land and its capital, Jerusalem, and the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination.
He confirmed that Jordan, both leadership and people, played a positive role in the recent war through its relief support obligations in Gaza, countering Israeli attempts at displacing the Palestinian people or attempting to resettle them outside their lands
Senator Dmour affirmed that Jordan has faced many challenges resulting from conflicts, such as accommodating large numbers of refugees despite limited resources, including recent repercussions from the Israeli war on Gaza, reaffirming Jordan's role in protecting the security of the region and calling for continued support for Jordan to enable it to continue its efforts in preserving regional security and stability.
In turn, the Vice President of the Relations Committee with the Mashreq countries, Orlando, thanked Jordan, represented by His Majesty the King, the partner we always trust in and his role in the region, affirming the role of Jordan in maintaining the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, noting that the two-state solution is the solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
He expressed their appreciation for Jordan's role in hosting Palestinian and Syrian refugees throughout the crises, in addition to Jordan's pivotal role for peace and promoting religious coexistence and tolerance in the region
He also praised His Majesty the King's speech in Brussels and his constant efforts to bring peace to the Middle East
