Khaberni - Minister of Labor Dr. Khaled Al-Bakkar said on Friday that the intensive security campaign on non-Jordanian labor aims to enforce the rule of law by applying the provisions of the laws governing residence and foreigners' affairs and labor.
Al-Bakkar added on Jordan TV that the practices of some individuals with non-compliant non-Jordanian workers may escalate to human trafficking.
He continued by saying that the ministry formed a committee with relevant entities to control these practices, emphasizing the enforcement of the law on those who employ or harbor a non-Jordanian worker illegally.
Al-Bakkar revealed that the number of valid work permits stands at 315,000.
He announced the introduction of a new system for labor market data at the beginning of next year, which will include all data related to the labor market and its requirements.
Regarding job opportunities, Al-Bakkar reviewed several initiatives and programs implemented by the ministry, including the National Employment Program and the Productive Branches Initiative, which now has 34 branches employing about 10,000 Jordanians, mostly females, and plans to open new productive branches next year.
Al-Bakkar disclosed that 95,000 workers are enrolled in social security, including 90,000 new enrollees in 2025, partly due to the incentives from national training and employment programs run by the ministry.
Al-Bakkar confirmed that the preliminary findings of the actuarial study of social security will be announced mid-next month, affirming the sustainability of social security funds for the next 25 years, and stated that today's work protects future generations, and that all sectors of society will participate in the forthcoming amendments. He emphasized the government's duty to protect the rights of beneficiaries in the fund, and added that early retirement imposes a significant burden on the Social Security Corporation.
