Khaberni - The German newspaper Allgemeine Zeitung reported that authorities evacuated four donkeys from the Gaza Strip to a zoo in the town of Oppenheim, as part of an Israeli project called Project Donkey Flights to transport animals to Europe.
The newspaper mentioned that the animals were suffering from "hunger, misery, and beating," noting that their condition started to improve after arriving in Germany. However, the newspaper neglected to mention the ongoing humanitarian crisis that the people of Gaza have been enduring for more than two years, including killings, starvation, displacement, and denial of medical treatment.
According to the Israeli entity in charge of the project, about 50 donkeys from Gaza have been "rescued."
The issue sparked widespread controversy due to the comparison of this action with the German federal government's refusal in September last to receive 20 Palestinian children for treatment on the grounds that "the situation is complicated," while the animals were received without complications.
The news circulation led to a wave of widespread criticism on social media, prompting the newspaper to disable the comments feature after accusations of "double standards."
