Israel detains UNIFIL soldier for about an hour

Khaberni - On Tuesday, the Israeli army detained one of the peacekeeping soldiers belonging to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon "UNIFIL" for less than an hour.

UNIFIL stated in a release that the Israeli army detained one of its peacekeeping soldiers after intercepting a logistical convoy.

The statement added that the soldier was released after “direct and immediate contacts from the head of the UNIFIL mission and its commander-in-chief and the mission liaison branch.”, The peacekeeping soldier was released in less than an hour.

It was confirmed that any detention of a United Nations peacekeeping soldier constitutes a blatant violation of international law, as any interference with the work of peacekeeping soldiers constitutes a violation of Resolution 1701.

It continued, "We expect full respect for the protected status of United Nations peacekeeping soldiers by all parties, and all such entities to refrain from interfering with their freedom of movement in any way."
