Khaberni - Bloating is a common feeling that can result from several factors, including the food you eat and underlying health issues. Excessive consumption of sweets or snacks can cause bloating, but there is an unexpected reason for this annoying bloating, which concerns the amount of air that is swallowed, which may happen due to common habits.
Swallowing air and bloating can result from regularly chewing gum
Dr. Lawrence Cunningham, a general practitioner in "UK Care Guide," says: "From my experience, chewing gum can contribute to bloating, even if you don't swallow it. When you chew gum, you tend to swallow more air, which may accumulate in your digestive system and cause bloating."
He continues, "I've seen this happen with people who regularly chew gum as a habit. Moreover, some types of sugar-free gum contain artificial sweeteners like sorbitol or xylitol, which can cause indigestion and bloating for some people."
Chewing food quickly
According to "Sorry Life," eating too quickly is a habit that leads to excess air swallowing.
Dr. Cunningham advises, "I always recommend taking your time to chew your food well and enjoy each bite. Doing so not only reduces air swallowing but also helps the body to break down and digest food more effectively."
Cunningham adds other factors that can exacerbate bloating, including "eating large meals shortly before bed, poor posture while eating, and not drinking enough water, all of which can aggravate symptoms."
He continues, "Besides, stress is another major factor that exacerbates bloating."
Cunningham advises, "Maintaining body hydration and engaging in regular physical activity are crucial for managing stress and promoting digestive health."
