Khaberni - Bloating is a common feeling that can result from several factors, including the food you eat and underlying health problems. Excessive consumption of sweets or snacks can cause bloating, but there is an unexpected cause for this annoying bloating. It concerns the amount of air that is swallowed, which can happen due to common habits.
Dr. Lawrence Cunningham, a general practitioner in the "Care Guide in the UK," says: "From my experience, chewing gum can contribute to bloating, even if you don't swallow it. When you chew gum, you tend to swallow more air, which may accumulate in your digestive system and cause bloating."
He continues, "I have seen this happen in people who chew gum regularly as a habit. Moreover, some types of sugar-free gum contain artificial sweeteners such as sorbitol or xylitol, which can cause indigestion and bloating in some people."
Eating food quickly
According to "Surrey Life," eating food too quickly is one of the habits that lead to swallowing excess air."
Dr. Cunningham advises: "I always recommend taking your time to chew your food well and enjoy every bite. It not only reduces the swallowing of air, but also helps the body to break down and digest the food better."
Cunningham adds other factors that can exacerbate bloating, which are: "Eating large meals shortly before sleeping, adopting a poor posture while eating, and not drinking enough water, all of which can aggravate the symptoms."
He continues, "Besides, stress is another major factor that exacerbates bloating."
Cunningham advises "Maintaining body hydration and regularly engaging in physical activity are crucial for managing stress and promoting digestive health."
