China Japan Sent Wrong Signal Regarding Taiwan

Khaberni - Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated in an official announcement on Sunday that Japan's public sending of a wrong signal about Taiwan is shocking, in the latest statements related to a conflict affecting relations between Beijing and Tokyo for over two weeks.

Wang, who is the highest-ranking Chinese official to comment publicly on the matter, clarified in the statement published on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website that Japan crossed a red line that should not be touched.

Wang accused Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi of attempting military intervention concerning Taiwan, referring to her statements on November 7, in which she responded to a question in parliament, saying that any Chinese attack on democratically governed Taiwan could lead to a military response from Tokyo.

The dispute, which is the biggest crisis between China and Japan in years, has extended to trade and cultural relations. China raised the issue on Friday with the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, and pledged to defend itself.

Beijing considers Taiwan a territory under its jurisdiction and does not rule out the use of force to control the island. The Taiwanese government rejects this and asserts that the people of the island alone decide its future.

In response to the message directed to the United Nations, the Japanese Foreign Ministry, on Saturday, rejected China's accusations, describing them as "completely unacceptable," and affirming that Tokyo's commitment to peace has not changed.

In speaking to reporters in South Africa after attending the G20 leaders summit, Takaichi did not address Wang's statements or the message on Sunday, and mentioned that Japan remains open to dialogue with China.
