Khaberni - A new residential project specifically for orphans has been completed in the Southern Jordan Valley area, as part of an initiative entirely reliant on popular support without any external institutional funding. This achievement is part of a series of projects started ten years ago, aimed at building and renovating homes for needy families and orphans in the region.
Rabee Wafiq Zureiqat, the founder of the initiative, said that the project has been carrying the slogan "supported by the Jordanian people" since its inception ten years ago, emphasizing that the slogan was not just an advertising phrase, but a vision aiming to liberate from dominance tools and rely on the strength of the community and its capability to build a self-support system.
Zureiqat explained that the basic idea of the initiative is to enhance the spirit of mutual aid and shared responsibility, away from anticipating support from institutions or conditional grants. He added: "We wanted a model that proves that popular cooperation can make a real difference, even if it starts with small steps."
He pointed out that the construction takes place with simple contributions from the people themselves, using a "coupon" system that allows anyone to contribute part of the cost of the building materials. He said: "We would specify small contributions like buying a brick for half a dinar, or four bricks for two dinars. The idea enabled everyone to participate, including the villagers and people from different provinces of Jordan."
Zureiqat considered this experience as a successful model for community giving, pointing out that the new residential project specifically for orphans is one of the fruits of the continuous popular work that has proven its ability to make a real change on the ground.
