The interventional radiology team at Al-Bashir Hospital recorded a qualitative medical achievement after successfully treating a rare case implemented for the first time within the Ministry of Health hospitals, for a 25-year-old girl who had been suffering for years from severe breathlessness and oxygen deficiency.
Radiographic examinations revealed the presence of a high-flow arteriovenous malformation (High-flow AVM) in the right lung, which is one of the rare conditions in the kingdom that could threaten the patient's life if not treated with precise and advanced techniques.
The medical team managed to treat the condition using interventional radiology techniques through a simple incision in the thigh no more than half a centimeter, using a special Plug to close the blood deformity without any surgical intervention or complications. The procedure resulted in an immediate improvement in oxygen levels within minutes, offering a safe alternative to traditional chest surgery.
The precise intervention was performed in the interventional radiology and catheterization department by:
• Dr. Anas Shahab – Head of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology
• Dr. Osman Abu Qaran
• Dr. Mohammed Nasr Nezal – Specialist in Diagnostic, Interventional Radiology and Catheterization
This success represents an advanced step in the development of government medical services and the adoption of modern treatment solutions, reflecting the efficiency of national cadres and their ability to adopt precise technologies that place Al-Bashir Hospital among the leading medical centers in the region.
