Khaberni - Former First Lady Michelle Obama stated that Americans are not ready to elect a female president, referring to the defeat of former Vice President Kamala Harris by President Donald Trump.
Obama made these remarks before a crowd of women at the Brooklyn Academy of Music while promoting her new book "The Look." She said last Friday: "As we have seen in the past elections, unfortunately, we are not ready."
She continued: "That is why I say: Don't even look at me regarding running, because you all lie. You are not ready for a woman to lead. You are not."
The former First Lady added that she does not believe men in America are comfortable with a woman leading them. Mrs. Obama said: "As you know, we have a lot to mature, and unfortunately, there are still many men who do not feel they can be led by a woman, and we have seen that."
In her book released on November 4, Obama addresses her journey with fashion, hair, and beauty, in addition to her time in the White House as the first African American First Lady.
She wrote that women in politics are often judged based on their physical appearance rather than their ability to lead. She wrote on "Facebook" in June while promoting her book before its release: "During our family's time in the White House, my appearance was under constant analysis - what I wore, and how my hair was styled. For a while, I wanted to reclaim more of that story, and share it in my unique way. I am grateful to have reached a point in my life where I feel comfortable expressing myself freely - wearing what I love and doing what feels real to me. And I am excited to share some of what I have learned during this journey."
