Khaberni - Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi expressed his relief at the safety of U.S. President Donald Trump following the shooting incident that targeted the White House Correspondents' Dinner which he attended last Saturday.
Al-Sisi condemned the act he described as criminal and expressed Egypt's absolute rejection of all forms of political violence and terrorism.
The Egyptian President stated on his official Facebook account: "I followed with great interest the shooting incident that occurred last evening around the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner, attended by His Excellency President Donald Trump."
President al-Sisi added: "In this context, I condemn this criminal act and affirm our absolute rejection of all forms of political violence and terrorism, which poses a serious threat to the security and stability of societies. I also express great relief at the safety of His Excellency the American President, wishing him continued health and well-being, and wishing the friendly United States security, stability, and prosperity."
On Saturday evening, chaos erupted in the Washington Hilton Hotel lobby, where the dinner was held, after an armed man stormed the lobby and rushed towards the ballroom and opened fire, resulting in a tense confrontation with Secret Service agents, while guests took cover under tables following the sound of gunfire.
The U.S. authorities confirmed that President Trump was unharmed, as he was quickly evacuated from the platform to a secure location alongside several senior officials, under tight security measures.
