Khaberni - Japanese Prime Minister Sanai Takaishi intends to review the public sector employee salary law to reduce the salaries of cabinet members, including herself, during the current extraordinary session of the Diet (parliament).
The government is scheduled to hold a meeting of the relevant ministers on Tuesday to confirm the suspension of additional allowances for the Prime Minister and ministers, which make their salaries higher than those of the deputies, according to the Japanese news agency "Jiji Press".
It appears that Takaishi aims to demonstrate her commitment to reform by fulfilling her long-standing call to cut ministerial salaries.
The Nippon Ishin no Kai (Japan Innovation Party), the new partner in the ruling coalition with her Liberal Democratic Party, advocates for reforms to reduce the privileges of deputies.
The Prime Minister stated in her inaugural press conference in October: "I will work on revising the law so that (cabinet members) do not receive salaries exceeding those of the legislators."
The government is considering including a provision in the law that stipulates not granting additional allowances to the Prime Minister and ministers "at this time".
