Lebanon declares Iranian ambassador persona non grata and demands his departure

Khaberni - The Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Tuesday, summoned the Iranian Chargé d'Affaires in Lebanon, Tawfiq Khoshkho, and informed him of the Lebanese state's decision to withdraw approval for the appointed Iranian ambassador Mohammad Reza Sheybani and declaring him persona non grata; demanding his departure from Lebanon by no later than Sunday, March 29.

On Tuesday, the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release that it had summoned Lebanon's ambassador to Tehran, Ahmed Sweidan, for consultations, in light of what it described as Iran's violation of diplomatic norms and the established rules in relations between the two countries.

The Iran war broke out on February 28, following widespread airstrikes by the United States and Israel as part of "Epic Rage" and "Lion's Roar" operations, targeting vital and military installations and command centers in Tehran and several other cities, resulting in the death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on the first day, along with a number of top officials and leaders, including the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani, and prominent leaders in the Revolutionary Guards.

In response, Iran conducted its operations by launching hundreds of missiles and drones towards Israel and countries in the region, along with closing the Strait of Hormuz, causing a surge in energy prices.

The war extended to Lebanon on March 2, after Hezbollah launched rockets at Israel following the assassination of Ali Khamenei, which was met with wide-ranging Israeli airstrikes and a ground incursion into southern Lebanon.
