US Sanctions on Supporters of Lebanese Hezbollah

Khaberni - The US imposes sanctions on three individuals accused of money laundering used to finance Hezbollah's activities, prior to a visit by a US official to Lebanon.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the US Treasury Department stated that "this action aims to support the disarmament of Hezbollah."

The sanctions were announced prior to a visit by John Hurley, the official in the US Treasury Department responsible for sanctions against extremist groups, to Lebanon.

The department clarified that the individuals sanctioned are people whom Washington accuses of "facilitating the transfer of tens of millions of dollars from Iran to Hezbollah in 2025, through currency exchange offices."

The statement pointed out that the party "uses these funds to support its fighters and rebuild its infrastructure and resist the efforts of the Lebanese government to assert its sovereign control over all Lebanese territory."

Hurley stated in the announcement that "Lebanon has the opportunity to be free, prosperous, and secure, but that can only happen if Hezbollah is fully disarmed and Iran's funding and influence are cut off."

At the same time, the Israeli military announced on Thursday that it had launched strikes on Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon, after issuing a warning to evacuate areas in three villages in the region.

A military statement reported that the army began "launching a series of strikes on Hezbollah military targets in southern Lebanon."
