Khaberni - U.S. Transportation Secretary Shawn Dove warned on Tuesday that the government shutdown resulting from the budget crisis will cause chaos in air traffic if it continues for another week, exacerbating the shortage of staff, leading to long queues at airports and the closure of parts of the airspace.

At a press conference in Philadelphia, he said, "If you extend (the crisis) a week from today, Democrats, you will see massive chaos ... and many delays in flights."

He added, "You will see many cancellations, and we may close certain parts of the airspace, because we simply cannot manage it due to the lack of available air traffic controllers."
