Nigeria Renews Rejection of Trumps Accusations

Khaberni - Nigerian Foreign Minister Youssef Togar rejected today, Tuesday, accusations by US President Donald Trump that the Nigerian government allows the persecution and killing of Christians.

At a joint press conference with his German counterpart Johann Vadevol in Berlin, Togar displayed a document that outlines the constitutional guarantees of religious freedom in Nigeria, emphasizing that the government is legally obligated to protect all citizens.

He said, "Therefore, it is impossible for there to be government-supported religious persecution in any form. At any level, whether it is federal, regional, or local - it is impossible."

Togar warned of attempts to destabilize his country in the wake of recent threats by the US President to intervene militarily if the government fails to provide adequate protection for Christians.

He said, "What we are trying to make the world understand is that we should not create another Sudan... We have seen what happened in Sudan, from calls for its division on a religious basis or on the basis of tribal sentiments."

Trump wrote in a post on "Truth Social" on Saturday: "If the Nigerian government continues to allow the killing of Christians, all aid to Nigeria will be immediately stopped and we may now go into this shameful country with full force to eradicate the Islamic terrorists committing these terrible atrocities."

On Sunday, assistant to the Nigerian president Daniel Buwala said that Nigerian president Bola Tinubu might meet Trump next week at the White House or on Nigerian soil "to discuss the situation regarding the protection of Christians from terrorist attacks."
