Khaberni - Egyptian artist Najwa Fouad experienced a new health crisis over the past few days, requiring her transfer to the hospital, where she is currently admitted to a private hospital in Cairo to undergo delicate surgery on her spine and foot.
Najwa Fouad revealed details about her health condition, saying in a statement to "Alarabiya.net" that she fell inside her home, resulting in a severe injury to her left foot, and subsequently underwent several medical checks that revealed a tear in the foot cartilage, necessitating surgical intervention.
New surgery after a joint replacement
The Egyptian artist added that she also felt some pain in her right foot, which had undergone a joint replacement 15 years ago, prompting the medical team to deem another surgery necessary for her.
She continued that the bigger issue in her health condition lies in her spine, as she suffers from the erosion of some lumbar vertebrae and cartilages, which will force her to undergo delicate surgery to install three screws in the spine, according to doctors.
Najwa Fouad explained that she hopes this crisis passes safely so she can continue her life normally without pain, especially since she was suffering from severe pain during the past period.
Compound fracture
Earlier, Najwa Fouad revealed details about her health in remarks to "Alarabiya.net," saying she fell to the ground in front of her home, which caused her a compound fracture in the shoulder and left arm area.
Fouad added that her foot was also affected by several injuries, prompting the treating doctor to put her entire arm in a plaster cast, and he asked her not to move until the bone heals.
She continued that she has been bedridden since then, as she is unable to move, especially with a slipped disc in the back vertebrae, noting that the results of the CT scans were disappointing, as the doctor informed her that the shoulder bones were still affected by the fracture and needed time to heal.
Plea to the Minister of Culture
In August last year, Najwa Fouad appealed to the Minister of Culture after experiencing several health crises and being unable to afford her treatment due to her financial circumstances. Consequently, the Egyptian Minister of Culture, Dr. Ahmed Henou, immediately issued directions to resolve her crisis, and a joint delegation from the Ministry of Culture and the Syndicate of Performing Arts visited the artist at her home.
The delegation listened to the artist's demands and problems, promising to meet all her needs in this stage of her life, emphasizing that Najwa Fouad is considered one of the most prominent icons in the history of Egyptian cinema and the art of belly dancing, and affirming that her long artistic career warrants all appreciation and care.
