Jordan The local administration bill allows the election of the mayor and its members

Khaberni - The Minister of Local Administration, Walid Al-Masri, confirmed on Wednesday that the local administration bill would be referred to the House of Representatives during the second ordinary session.

Al-Masri stated on "Al-Mamlaka" that according to the proposed bill, the mayor and its members would be elected by the citizens.

Al-Masri added that the law would be subject to "widespread controversy" after its approval, especially since there are divisions in public opinion, explaining that according to a poll on participation in elections, the results showed that 55% of the citizens do not wish to participate in them.

He noted that the provisions of the law would need to be discussed within the House of Representatives, and that an extensive dialogue would be conducted about them.

Al-Masri clarified that once the House of Representatives completes the law, it would be sent to the Independent Election Commission to determine the election date, expecting the elections to take place in 2026, but the exact date depends on the readiness of the commission.
