Jordan a strong state of atmospheric instability on Wednesday and Thursday with warnings of flash floods

Khaberni - The kingdom will be affected starting from Wednesday by a strong state of atmospheric instability, according to weather analyses and the monitoring of air mass movement, as per a report issued by the Meteorological Department.

It is expected that a large amount of clouds will accumulate, and heavy rainfalls will occur in many areas, accompanied by thunderstorms and hail, which raises the risk of flash floods in valleys and low-lying areas, including the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and the city of Aqaba.

The administration added that the impact of the weather condition would gradually begin on Wednesday, with the southern regions including Aqaba initially affected by rain showers that will later extend to cover wide areas of the kingdom, including the capital Amman. The rainfall will at times be heavy and accompanied by thunder and hail, with the condition expected to intensify significantly during the night hours.

It was noted that Thursday would witness the peak of the weather condition, with a noticeable drop in temperatures, and the weather will be cold, cloudy, and rainy in most areas, with occasionally heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and hail as well as active westerly winds with strong gusts, leading to a rise in water levels and the formation of flash floods in several areas.

The Meteorological Department clarified that the conditions preceding the instability, on Monday and Tuesday, will be relatively stable and relatively cold in most areas, with limited chances of light rain showers in some areas, especially on Tuesday, without significant weather impacts.

The Meteorological Department has warned of the risk of flash floods in valleys and low-lying areas including Aqaba and the Dead Sea, and the risk of thunderstorms and hail, in addition to the severity of rainfalls, poor visibility due to fog and low-lying clouds especially over mountainous areas, as well as due to dust in desert regions, alongside the hazard of high winds and strong gusts on Thursday.

It called for staying away from stream beds, valleys, and low-lying areas, and to exercise caution while driving, especially on wet roads, and to be aware of reduced horizontal visibility, particularly during the night and early morning hours, and to follow updates issued by the Meteorological Department continuously through its various platforms.
