Khaberni - The Portuguese Football Federation summoned Cristiano Junior, the son of Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo, a player for Al Nassr of Saudi Arabia, to represent the national team for the under-16 category for the first time.
Cristiano Junior (15 years old) is on the list of 22 players preparing to participate in the Federations Cup Tournament.
Teams from Wales, Turkey, England, and Portugal will participate in the tournament, scheduled to be held from October 30 to November 4, 2025.
The summoning of Cristiano Ronaldo's son to the Portuguese under-16 team
The Federations Cup is an international friendly tournament for age groups that is held regularly among teams from academies and juniors, but it is not official, i.e., it is not affiliated with FIFA or UEFA, aiming to develop young players and granting them early international play experience.
The latest call-up for Cristiano Junior came months after he was chosen for the Portuguese under-15 team list, specifically last May.
The recent call-up enhances the possibility of seeing Cristiano Junior playing alongside his father Cristiano Ronaldo on the field, according to the British newspaper "Daily Mail".
However, "it seems difficult to happen, especially since Ronaldo Sr. will turn 41 next February, but the Portuguese star still continues to resist the advancement of age," it noted, referring to his ongoing success in scoring against competitors, most recently against Hungary and Al-Fateh in the European qualifiers for the World Cup and the Saudi league consecutively.
Cristiano Junior previously played in the academies of Juventus and Manchester United, both clubs represented by his father before moving to Saudi Arabia in January 2023.
In Portugal, Ronaldo’s son is known by the nickname "Cristianinho", and he wore the number 7 jersey and played as a left winger with the younger age groups.
It is noted that Ronaldo Sr. started his international career in 2001 with the Portuguese under-15 national team, and now he aims to set a new record by participating in his sixth World Cup in what is likely to be "his last in his legendary career".
