World newspapers reveal the position of Arab countries that reject the plan to divide Gaza

Khaberni - World newspapers have covered the developments of the next phase after the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, shedding light on an American-Israeli plan to re-divide the Gaza Strip into two areas, and Washington's efforts for reconstruction and achieving regional stability.

The "Wall Street Journal" observed the discussions that the United States had with Israeli officials about a plan proposing to divide the Gaza Strip into two separate areas.

According to the American newspaper, one of the areas would be under Israeli occupation, and the other managed by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), with reconstruction efforts to be implemented only in the part controlled by Israel.

However, Arab countries - according to the newspaper - expressed their rejection of the proposed partition plan, expressing their concern that this division may lead to entrenching the Israeli's permanent presence in part of the sector, and also ruled out agreeing to send Arab forces to Gaza under these circumstances.

The newspaper also quoted a senior American administration official saying, "The plan to divide the sector is just a preliminary idea and updates will be presented in the coming days."

Stability and Reconstruction

For its part, "Newsweek" magazine in an article dealt with the issue of reconstructing Gaza, pointing out that providing shelter for displaced people requires a new and radical approach to post-war reconstruction.

According to the article, it is possible to provide immediate shelter for the displaced people in preparation for building permanent, carefully planned housing complexes, pointing out that organized reconstruction is not only about improving the lives of the residents of Gaza, but also contributes to establishing long-term regional stability.

In a related context, The New York Times reported from American officials that there is concern within the administration of President Donald Trump about the possibility of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu — who is wanted by the International Criminal Court — withdrawing from the Gaza agreement.

According to the officials, the current White House strategy seeks to prevent Netanyahu from resuming fighting against Hamas, led by Vice President J.D. Vance alongside the American envoys Steve Whitcov and Jared Kushner.

They pointed out that there are ongoing questions about the size of the role envisioned by the United States and its allies for the Palestinian Authority in the next stage.

Calls for Netanyahu's Accountability

In the matter of Israeli domestic issues, an editorial from the newspaper "Haaretz" urged Jerusalem judges to expedite the trial of Netanyahu, who is charged with corruption cases, emphasizing the public's right to know whether the prime minister is guilty or innocent, and the nature of the crimes directed against him.

The newspaper stressed that judicial duty mandates the judges to set a clear timeline for the trial, and to reach a swift and fair verdict to ensure the principle of accountability without delay.

Netanyahu faces charges of corruption, bribery, and breach of trust in 3 corruption cases.

In addition to his local trial, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu on November 21, 2024, charging him with committing war crimes and crimes against humanity against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
