Jordanian Farmers Union No Justification for Oil Import

Khaberni - Unofficial forecasts indicate that the price of a tank of oil this season will exceed 120 dinars, amid a season described as scarce due to decreased production quantities caused by rain retention and weather conditions that affected rainfed agriculture.

In this context, the General Director of the Farmers' Union, Engineer Mahmoud Al-Auran, confirmed that the available quantities of oil are sufficient to meet the local market’s needs, stating: Our oil is available, God willing, and of high quality, pointing out that the rise in prices is due to production conditions and not to a severe shortage in the market.

Al-Auran clarified in radio statements that the percentage of oil extracted this season reached 18% in some mills, which is a positive indicator of the product's quality, adding that areas with less load on trees saw an increase in the oil extraction rate, which partially compensates for the decline in total quantity.

Al-Auran warned citizens against purchasing through dubious pages on social media, urging reliance on reliable sources and conducting oil testing at sites designated by regulatory authorities.

While the Ministry of Agriculture announced its readiness to allow imports if the price increase continues, Al-Auran stressed that importing is currently unjustified because the local quantities are sufficient and the prices will remain reasonable, expecting that excellent oil will be sold at a price not exceeding 120 dinars per tank.

Al-Auran called on official bodies, especially the Ministry of Industry and Trade, to intervene and set price ceilings if some traders exploit the situation to raise prices to exaggerated levels.
