Vietnamese Official Harasses Korean Employee During Official Visit

Khaberni - Media in Seoul reported on Monday that South Korea summoned the accredited Vietnamese military attaché following suspicions of inappropriate behavior by the Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Defense during an official visit last month.

Reports indicate that the Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Defense, Huang Xuan Quyen, "inappropriately touched a South Korean civilian employee" during an annual security forum held in Seoul in September.

On Tuesday, an official in the South Korean Ministry of Defense told the "France Press" agency that the ministry had taken "appropriate action" regarding the incident, but did not confirm whether the attaché had been summoned or not. He added that "the disclosure of detailed facts is limited out of respect for the victim’s wishes".
In a closed briefing with South Korean journalists on Monday, the South Korean Ministry of Defense said it "condemns the behavior of the Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Defense and has requested measures to prevent its recurrence."

The Vietnamese Deputy Minister left South Korea the day after the incident, and the attaché at his embassy in Seoul was summoned a week later, according to local media.

The same sources noted that the Vietnamese attaché expressed regret, assuring the ministry that such an incident would not recur.

The Hanoi embassy in Seoul did not respond to "France Press" agency's contacts for comment on this information.
