Towel Theft Reacts in Iraq and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Investigates

Khaberni - The issue of "towel theft" from a hotel in Jordan continues to resonate among Iraqis, after an Iraqi diplomat was accused of the matter.

In the latest development of this ongoing case, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Sunday that it has started taking the necessary measures regarding the leak of official documents from one of the diplomatic missions, referring to the "towel incident".

The ministry also clarified in a statement that "since the beginning of the circulation of a case involving one of the employees working at the ministry center, it initiated the formation of an investigative committee to look into the circumstances of the topic and verify all details according to legal and administrative frameworks adopted." It confirmed that it "deals with the issue professionally and transparently, in line with the current laws, and in a way that preserves the ministry's reputation".

Furthermore, it emphasized that it will announce the results of the investigation into the employee’s case as soon as it is completed, and will take the appropriate legal measures."

Published an official letter
This came after the Iraqi diplomat Zainab Al-Saadi published an official letter directed by the Iraqi Ambassador in Jordan, Omar Al-Barznji to the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding an incident of stealing towels from a famous hotel in Amman. She demanded immediate intervention from the ministry and the Iraqi Prime Minister in her press statements.

She also confirmed that after "being accused of stealing bathroom towels while staying at a hotel in the Jordanian capital, she provided testimony to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as she serves as an advisor in the ministry for opening an investigation into the case.

Al-Saadi, who participated in a tribal gathering from the Sawad tribe to support her, stated two days before that "the Ministry of Foreign Affairs formed a committee to investigate the case," demanding the committee to "visit Amman for a detailed investigation".

On his part, Mohammed Blassam, one of the sheikhs of the Sawad tribe in Iraq, defended the diplomat, stating that "Advisor Zainab Al-Saadi does not represent the Sawad tribe but represents a country like Iraq with a history and civilization".

The case has sparked wide controversy among Iraqis in recent days on social media, between critics of "such offensive actions" and defenders of the diplomatic advisor’s innocence.
