In a very precise operation doctor restores sight to an infant 24 hours after his birth

Khaberni - In an unprecedented medical achievement in the Middle East, Egyptian doctor Ashraf Abdel Salam succeeded in removing a rare tumor behind the eye of an infant who was less than 24 hours old, preserving his sight and preventing complete vision loss in a procedure described as one of the most precise surgeries in ophthalmology globally.

Medical sources told local media that the tests conducted on the child revealed a tumor that began forming inside the mother's womb during pregnancy, a very rare condition that has only been recorded in a limited number of newborns around the world.

Upon noticing a clear swelling in the infant's eye immediately after birth, the medical team led by Dr. Abdel Salam decided to perform urgent surgery to avoid total loss of the eye and vision within the first hours of his life.

The team, inside the operating room, raced against time in a lengthy operation, during which they delicately handled the extremely sensitive tissues behind the eye, using the latest surgical microscopes and eye socket tumor removal techniques.

At the end of the operation, the Egyptian doctor succeeded in completely removing the tumor while fully preserving the optic nerve, restoring hope for the child's vision, which was described medically before the surgery as "extremely critical".

The surgery was described by specialists as one of the most precise surgeries witnessed in this field in the region, and ophthalmologists praised the skill of the Egyptian medical team who managed the case in record time, affirming that this achievement reflects the advancement of medical and surgical capabilities and the efficiency of doctors in Egypt in recent years.
