Khaberni - Fire services in Italy announced yesterday, Sunday, that a massive fire destroyed the historic Bernaga Monastery in the northern part of the country, forcing 22 nuns to evacuate it. The monastery was established in 1628 in La Valletta Brianza near Milan, where Carlo Acutis, the first saint of the millennium in the Catholic Church, received his first communion.
The fire broke out on Saturday and completely destroyed the building, according to pictures taken at night and posted by firefighters on the "X" platform. The nuns evacuated the monastery without any recorded injuries, but Italian media reported that the fire consumed many works of art and valuable possessions.
Marco Panzeri, the mayor of La Valletta Brianza, expressed his regret to reporters about this "disaster" which caused "countless substantial damages", and it is suspected that the fire was caused by electrical friction. Pope Leon XIV in the Vatican announced the canonization of Carlo Acutis on September 7 (September).
