Khaberni - A recent study has shown that drinking a cup of coffee daily may reduce the risk of liver cancer by about 50%, according to the British newspaper "The Daily Mail".
Coffee beans contain a substance called "polyphenol", which may stop the division of cancer cells. Therefore, researchers from Queens Belfast University in the UK analyzed the cases of nearly half a million individuals, the majority of whom drink coffee.
The study found that the elderly, those with a university education, those who drink alcohol, and men, tend to drink more coffee.
The researchers followed about 365,157 coffee enthusiasts, as well as more than 100,000 individuals who had never drunk coffee, over a period of 7 and a half years using national cancer registers.
It was observed that the risk of developing "hepatocellular carcinoma", which accounts for 9 out of every 10 cases of liver cancer, was 50% lower in coffee drinkers compared to non-drinkers.
The World Cancer Research Fund also concluded that coffee "reduces" the risk of liver cancer.
However, the latest study, published in the British Journal of Cancer, did not find a comprehensive link between coffee and other gastrointestinal cancers.
