Evening Sessions Held for Sharm elSheikh Talks to End War in Gaza

Khaberni - Evening sessions were held in the Egyptian city of Sharm el-Sheikh on Wednesday, as part of talks to end the war in the Gaza Strip, on the third day of discussions seeking to finalize an agreement according to a 20-point plan by US President Donald Trump, according to Cairo News.

Cairo News reported that the atmosphere during the sessions regarding reaching an agreement was "positive".

It noted that the delegation from Hamas "showed great flexibility during the ongoing talks," where the movement’s delegation demonstrated the positivity and responsibility needed to make the required progress and complete the agreement.

The Egyptian and Qatari mediators entered a consultation session with the American delegation headed by Steve Witkoff, the Middle East envoy, and the Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs, Ron Dermer.

It added that the extended session includes the chief of the Egyptian General Intelligence Directorate, the Prime Minister and Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, the head of the Turkish Intelligence Service Ibrahim Kalin, Trump's envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, and the Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer.

The discussions focused on "mechanisms for handing over detained Israelis alive and dead, and in exchange, the Palestinian prisoners in the occupation jails, the maps of Israeli withdrawal, and the introduction of aid with the onset of a ceasefire, and handing over the sector's administration to an independent Palestinian competence committee", but Hamas also demanded clarification of the mechanisms and procedures necessary to implement Trump's plan and guarantees to prevent Israel from re-aggressing Gaza.

Hamas and the mediators exchanged lists of prisoners required to be released, according to the agreed standards and numbers.

The American president’s plan to end the war in Gaza includes a clause stating that "once all detainees are released, Israel will release 250 prisoners sentenced to life imprisonment, in addition to 1700 Palestinians from Gaza who were arrested after October 7, 2023, including all detained women and children, and for every Israeli detainee returned, Israel will release the remains of 15 Palestinians."

The discussions came after Hamas agreed to release all detainees in the sector in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners.

A leader in Hamas said that the movement's delegation in Egypt is working to overcome all obstacles to achieving a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip that meets the aspirations of the Palestinian people, adding that they dealt with high responsibility to the ceasefire proposals in Gaza, including the latest Trump plan.

Trump said that once an agreement is reached to end the war in the Gaza Strip, "we will do everything in our power to ensure everyone's commitment to it."

Indirect talks commenced in Sharm el-Sheikh on Monday, October 6, 2025, lasting for 4 hours between delegations of Hamas and Israel. The indirect talks continued positively on Tuesday and on Wednesday, sessions of discussions were continued through several morning sessions.

Trump published on Monday, September 29, 2025, a 20-point plan to end the war in Gaza, which still requires the approval of the concerned parties and specifically mandates him to chair the committee overseeing the transitional phase in the sector.
