Khaberni - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced this Wednesday evening Israel's support for U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to suspend attacks against Iran for a period of two weeks, while conditioning this on Tehran’s immediate commitment to a complete cessation of “aggression” and the immediate opening of the Strait of Hormuz to international navigation.
Netanyahu clarified in an official statement released in English, that Israel supports U.S. efforts aimed at ensuring that Iran is stripped of its nuclear and missile threats, pointing out that Washington has pledged to Tel Aviv to achieve these shared goals during the upcoming round of negotiations as well.
This official Israeli stance confirms Tel Aviv’s commitment to the temporary ceasefire in the Iranian arena, while insisting on achieving strategic gains concerning regional security and freedom of navigation as well.
Decisively, Netanyahu emphasized at the end of his statement that the "ceasefire for two weeks does not include Lebanon," a position confirmed by the Israeli military leadership in a separate statement, announcing the continuation of military operations and intense ground activity against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.
This clarification comes in response to international reports and others issued by the Pakistani mediator, which had indicated that the calm would extend to all fronts, including the Lebanese arena as well.
On the other hand, the Israeli exceptions and continued bombing in Lebanon provoked angry reactions from Tehran, where Iranian sources threatened to return to attacking Israel if the breach of understandings continued, considering the continuing operations in Lebanon to reflect the inability of the U.S. administration to control Netanyahu's decisions, pushing the region towards a rapid collapse of the temporary truce.
