Khaberni - Special
A number of graduates from Jordanian public universities are facing financial claims related to the scholarship and loan program provided by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, after their names were added to the list of those wanted for public funds.
The graduate Nada Muhafez from Yarmouk University, who completed her studies in Journalism and Media and earned a Bachelor's degree with a score of (79.9) and a rating of (Very Good), told Khaberni that she was surprised to be asked to repay the university loan despite not having found a job since her graduation in 2019.
She added that she joined the university loan program to cover her study expenses, as she was unable to finance it herself, indicating that the Ministry of Higher Education began demanding the due amounts after two years of her graduation.
The scholarship and loan program aims to support students who are unable to cover the costs of studying at official Jordanian universities, with the amounts being repaid after graduation according to the applicable systems and instructions.
In this context, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mohannad Al-Khatib, told Khaberni that the applicable system stipulates that “the loan repayment process begins two years after the student obtains the university degree”.
Al-Khatib added that any installment plan or scheduling of the due amounts is carried out through the Directorate of Royal Funds at the Ministry of Finance, as it is the entity authorized to follow up on these commitments.
