The government Vegetable oils are available and measures are being taken to regulate their prices

Khaberni - The Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply, Engineer Yaarub Al-Qudah, confirmed the availability of sufficient quantities of vegetable oils in the local market, and the continuation of supply chains from several sources, despite the challenges imposed by regional disruptions.
During his meeting with importers and manufacturers of vegetable oils, which was attended by the President of the Jordan and Amman Chamber of Commerce, Senator Khalil Al-Haj Tawfiq, and the Vice President of the Jordan Chamber of Industry, Mohammad Al-Jitan, Al-Qudah discussed the sector's reality and the obstacles it faces, along with the measures that can be taken to mitigate the impact of global price increases of this product on the local market.
He indicated that the ministry continuously monitors the market situation in collaboration with the private sector and affirmed that if any unjustified price increases are observed, measures will be taken, including imposing price ceilings based on well-studied criteria that consider the costs of production and importation, and reasonable profit margins, ensuring fairness among different varieties and sources, in consultation with the Jordan Chamber of Industry.
He also noted that the supply chains have not stopped and are carried out through several land and sea routes, including the Aqaba port, which ensures the continuity of the availability of the product in the markets.
The President of the Jordan and Amman Chamber of Commerce, Senator Khalil Al-Haj Tawfiq, confirmed the availability of sufficient quantities of basic food commodities in the kingdom, and the stability of most of their prices, except for vegetable oils, which have been affected by their global price increase.

He referred to how the commercial sector works with all its efforts in cooperation with the ministry to provide goods in sufficient quantities and at appropriate prices, urging citizens not to panic or pay attention to rumors that could disrupt the market, affirming that previous experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic and the aggression on Gaza have proven the sector's ability to secure goods in various conditions.

In turn, the Vice President of the Jordan Chamber of Industry, Mohammad Al-Jitan, confirmed the availability of raw materials and production inputs in sufficient quantities for factories and importers, pointing out that the chamber is working with relevant authorities to overcome the challenges facing the sector.

He explained that the rise in prices locally is mainly due to their global increase, in addition to the rise in shipping costs, highlighting the importance of partnering with the ministry to ensure the continuity of supply chains, and taking necessary measures to control the price increase.

On their part, the importers and manufacturers emphasized the importance of not rushing to purchase vegetable oils or following rumors, urging to obtain information from its official sources, and they stressed the importance of any future decisions related to imposing price ceilings to consider the costs of importation and production, the variety of oils and their sources and packaging costs, in a way that does not negatively affect the continuity of the sector’s operations, taking into account the global increases that have exceeded 15 percent since the beginning of the year.
