Khaberni - The Minister of Local Administration, Engineer Walid Al-Masri, anticipated that the next municipal council elections would occur in the spring of 2027.
Al-Masri mentioned in television statements tonight, Wednesday, that the government has begun a series of dialogues about the draft law with the parties and will broaden these over the coming months to include the parliamentary committees and council members, as well as all governorates through community organizations.
He pointed out that the Ministry will rephrase the draft, using feedback from the consultations and extensive dialogues, to have it ready for the House of Representatives at the beginning of the next regular session, and it will take its time to pass it, after which the Independent Election Commission will announce the election date.
Al-Masri confirmed that the draft law has increased the participation of women, by allocating 30% of the municipal council seats to them, in addition to the youth, who will have at least 3 representatives in the councils.
He explained that the government will resort to its authority to appoint members in case the representation rate of youth in the councils is not achieved.
