Conclusion of the Workshop on Producing GlutenFree Sorghum Bread at Petra University

Khaberni - Under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Basma bint Ali, chairperson of the board of trustees of the Hashemite Fund for the Development of the Jordanian Badia, the workshop "Production of Gluten-Free Sorghum Bread" concluded today, Thursday, at Petra University.

The university vice president, Dr. Miyas Al Rimawi, said in his speech during the ceremony attended by Ahmed Al Oweidat, director of the Hashemite Fund for the Development of the Jordanian Badia, that the workshop included the graduation of a group of local community women who participated in a training program to produce gluten-free sorghum bread, serving the community and enhancing opportunities for food and health empowerment.

He pointed to Petra University's interest in serving the community and contributing to its advancement, ensuring its role is not limited to education and scientific research only.

Al Rimawi praised the interest and care of HRH Princess Basma for volunteer work initiatives, believing that volunteer work forms a fundamental pillar in building communities, promotes the values of cooperation and solidarity, and reflects the spirit of belonging and giving.

On his part, Dr. Ali Al Maqousi, director of the university's financing office, said that the idea of the workshop stemmed from a research project team titled "Sorghum Cultivation and Bakery Production", funded by the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, supervised by the Jordanian Association for Scientific Research, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation, and coordinated with the Hashemite Fund for the Development of the Jordanian Badia, achieving the workshop's output objectives organized by the fund last June.

Al Maqousi pointed out that the objectives of the workshop included enabling participants to produce high-quality gluten-free sorghum bread, enhancing concepts of hygiene and food safety during manufacturing, and developing skills in pricing and local marketing of home products.

At the end of the workshop, HRH Princess Basma handed the certificates of appreciation to the graduates.
