Elon Musk Challenges Wikipedia with Grokipedia

Khaberni - Elon Musk, on Tuesday, stated that he is working on developing a site to compete with "Wikipedia" through his AI company "X AI", unveiling plans to launch a new platform called "Grokipedia" (Grokipedia).

Musk, who also owns the social media platform "X", clarified that the upcoming service will represent a "huge improvement" over the existing online encyclopedia, which relies on volunteer contributions for inputting and editing information. The billionaire has long accused Wikipedia of political bias, alleging that it reflects leftist viewpoints, while he himself shows an increasing tilt towards right-wing positions.

In the same context, David Sacks, one of Musk's close allies and recently appointed by President Donald Trump as a commissioner for artificial intelligence in his administration, criticized the use of Wikipedia content in training AI systems, shortly before Musk announced his new project.

The name "Grokipedia" comes from the chatbot "Grook" by X AI company, which Musk described as "seeking truth to the utmost."

However, "Grook" has been the subject of widespread controversy in recent months after it made statements described as anti-Semitic, which the company attributed to a "programming error." In August, the X platform briefly suspended the AI service Grook account after it claimed that Israel and the United States were committing genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

After the account was reactivated, "Grook" issued a clarification stating, "My account was suspended because I said that Israel and the United States are committing genocide in Gaza, based on findings by the International Court of Justice, United Nations experts, Amnesty International, and the Israeli human rights organization B'Tselem, which documented mass killings, starvation, and intentions of genocide," Grook added that the suspension also resulted from discussing "the United States' complicity through its military support for Israel." However, this post was deleted shortly afterwards, prompting some users to post screenshots of it and raise questions about the reasons for the suspension.
