Khaberni - Royal Jordanian Airlines and Zain Jordan have signed a strategic cooperation agreement - the first of its kind in the region - whereby Zain will provide a number of facilities at Queen Alia International Airport with tablets equipped with instant sign language translation service; in cooperation with Merge, specialized in developing technological solutions for integrating and empowering people with disabilities.
The collaboration aims to enable travelers with disabilities, particularly the deaf, to communicate with airport staff and Royal Jordanian services, facilitating travel procedures and enhancing their independence.
The agreement was signed by the Vice Chairman/CEO of Royal Jordanian, Engineer Samer Al Majali, and the CEO of Zain, Fahad Al Jassem, in the presence of officials from both sides. During the signing ceremony, the new service mechanism was demonstrated and tested on the tablets, in preparation for its implementation at Queen Alia International Airport.
CEO Engineer Samer Al Majali emphasized Royal Jordanian's commitment within its corporate social responsibility and sustainable programs to support and empower people with disabilities, stressing the need to provide inclusive and safe travel services to them, especially travelers from the deaf community, ensuring their right to access and receive air transport services. He noted that the partnership with Zain reaffirms Royal Jordanian's role in enhancing national efforts to support inclusive tourism and making Jordan an accessible destination for all.
On his part, CEO of Zain Jordan, Fahad Al Jassem stated that this cooperation reflects Zain's commitment to its pioneering role in offering innovative and inclusive digital solutions that consider the needs of all community segments, as part of its social responsibility and its focus on utilizing technology to serve different groups. He added that the company continues its efforts to support and empower people with disabilities through its various sustainability management programs and initiatives aimed at enhancing their integration into all aspects of life, providing necessary tools and technologies to ensure their independence and facilitate their communication with their surroundings. He added that this initiative continues the efforts started years ago by providing instant translation service for its subscribers from the deaf community across all its branches, in addition to the "Basma+" line designed specifically for deaf individuals, offering them video calls and other features, with the possibility to interact with Zain's subscriber service center for the deaf through Zain's smartphone app.
The new service will be available at several locations used by Royal Jordanian travelers within the airport facilities, including the departure hall, sales office, transit office (South), baggage services office, business lounge (Crown), and first-class office.
The tablets operate through an internet connection provided by Zain within the facilities of Queen Alia International Airport, ensuring high-speed connectivity and service quality, while instant translation is managed through the "Merge" platform that offers immediate response around the clock (24/7), facilitating communication of travelers with airport staff and Royal Jordanian services at various stages of their journey.
