Khaberni - The security apparatuses at the Egyptian Ministry of the Interior denied the validity of what was circulated on some social media sites about the disappearance of a Chinese tourist in the country, explaining that the incident dates back to her being caught within a gang involved in trafficking and electronic fraud.
The Ministry of Interior announced that the woman was apprehended among elements of a criminal network specialized in electronic fraud, in accordance with specific legal procedures carried out by the relevant authorities.
The ministry mentioned in an official statement published on its "Facebook" account that the security check revealed that the woman apprehended was part of a gang that included eight members, among them three of the same nationality, where this gang specialized in luring victims, most of them from the same country, through fake ads claiming to provide job opportunities in the country within the field of e-commerce, and then kidnapping them after their arrival.
According to the statement, the suspects forced their victims to contact their families to demand sums of money in exchange for their release, and these funds were transferred via digital platforms.
The ministry added that after monitoring their activities, a security operation was carried out to target them inside one of the residential apartments located within the jurisdiction of the First Settlement police station, resulting in the apprehension of the members of the gang with possession of a number of firearms, knives, electric shock devices, in addition to mobile phones containing evidence confirming their involvement in the mentioned criminal activity.

During the raid, one of the detainees was also rescued, who is from the same country, was with them inside the apartment where the incident occurred, and was transferred to the competent authorities to receive the necessary care after being released.
The ministry indicated that all legal measures regarding the incident were taken, while the concerned investigative authorities commenced their work to uncover the full details and hold the involved parties accountable.
