Khaberni -Tell Me - The family of a Kurdish young man who died in a hit-and-run accident in the city of Kirkuk has demanded an unconventional tribal blood money, equivalent to the value of 100 camels, which is estimated to be about 100 million Iraqi dinars, as compensation for the loss of their son.

According to Iraqi media, a young man from Kirkuk had previously been involved in an unintentional hit-and-run accident with another young man, and both sides are seeking to resolve the case amicably by paying blood money to the victim's family.

Islamic Law Interpretations
However, the surprise was in the nature of the blood money demanded by the victim's family, which is unusual at present, despite the fact that camel blood money is derived from religious interpretations in Islamic law.

The lawyer Omar Qahtan al-Obaidi, who is representing the young man required to pay the blood money, stated that the victim's family has demanded a blood money amounting to 100 camels, which he estimated to be worth 100 million Iraqi dinars (about 75,000 US dollars).

The lawyer added that his client's family has started a fundraising campaign to complete the large sum of the blood money, without clarifying whether the victim's family will accept it or will insist on the delivery of one hundred camels. He clarified that the blood money is a right of the victim's family, and their compensation request and method should be respected.
