On May 25th of every year, Jordanians celebrate Independence Day, which is a pivotal moment in the history of the modern Jordanian state. On this day in 1946, Jordan declared its independence from British mandate and managed to regain its full sovereignty under the leadership of the late King Abdullah I bin Al-Hussein. Since then, Independence Day has become a symbol of freedom, dignity, and achievement, and an occasion to renew loyalty and belonging to the nation and the Hashemite leadership.

The Jordanian experience has proven that independence is not only about political liberation, but a comprehensive national project based on enhancing security, building strong institutions, and sustainable economic development. Despite scarce resources and regional challenges, Jordan has managed to maintain its internal stability and continues its development journey with confidence and steadiness.

Security is the Pillar of Independence

One of the most significant achievements for Jordan after independence is the establishment of a professional and skilled security and military system, which serves as a safety valve for the state and society. The role of the security forces, led by the Jordanian Armed Forces – the Arab Army, in protecting the borders, countering attempts to tamper with national security, and participating in peacekeeping operations around the world has been prominent.

Today, Jordan is highly regarded globally for its pivotal role in combating terrorism and extremism, thanks to the wise visions of its leadership and the cohesion of its internal front. The security and stability that Jordan enjoys are among the most attractive factors for investment and productive work environment essentials.

The Economy: Challenges and Opportunities

Since independence, the Jordanian economy has made significant strides in growth and development, despite regional and international crises. Successive governments have adopted developmental strategies aimed at diversifying income sources, encouraging investment, and enhancing partnerships with the private sector.

Today, Jordan is witnessing a resurgence in vital sectors such as renewable energy, information technology, medical tourism, and higher education, thanks to political stability and attractive legislation. Additionally, the free trade agreements that Jordan has signed play a significant role in opening it up to global markets.

Despite economic challenges represented by unemployment rates and public debt, the spirit of independence drives Jordanians towards more work and creativity, and strengthens their confidence in a promising future based on innovation and self-reliance.

In Conclusion

Independence Day remains an occasion to affirm national constants, deepen the spirit of citizenship, and remember the sacrifices of fathers and grandfathers. It is a renewed call for all Jordanians to continue building and giving, and to preserve the achievements of the nation, keeping Jordan a model of security, stability, and growth in a challenging environment.

Every year, may Jordan remain a dear, free homeland, with its leadership, people, army, and institutions.
