Khaberni - The French health authorities announced today, Wednesday, the recording of the first Ebola virus infection on its soil in a doctor returning from the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
According to (France Press), a statement from the Ministry of Health said: "We confirm today the recording of the first confirmed case of Ebola virus on French territory", clarifying that the case was registered in mainland France.
The ministry said the doctor was on a humanitarian mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and was confirmed to have Ebola. It is the first case of the virus in the country during the current outbreak, indicating that the patient has been isolated, and authorities are tracing those who had been in contact with him, and that the risk to the general European population is low. The World Health Organization said that the Democratic Republic of the Congo recorded the highest number of confirmed Ebola cases in the first month compared to any other outbreak of the virus, which infected more than a thousand people and claimed the lives of 267.
Ebola, which is transmitted through direct contact and body fluids, has caused the deaths of more than 15,000 people in Africa over the past fifty years.
